Bio
Mach Five was an independent rock band from New York City led by singer/guitarist Jeff Darien (AeroVox).
The band emerged from the mid-90's NYC Britpop Indie Rock scene where Mach Five regularly shared the stage and surroundings with like-minded bands, DJ’s, freaks and fans. Mach Five distilled their love of The Beatles, XTC, R.E.M. and underground heroes of the 80’s and 90’s from both sides of the Atlantic into their own neo-psychedelic post-punk power-pop.
Island Records signed Mach Five following the release of the band's debut 7” single “Sunday’s Here” b/w “Blown Away” on Wagon Train Records. Mach Five's debut Island LP "Mach Five" and single "I'm Alive" were recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN with Producer Steven Haigler (The Pixies, Muse) and mixed at South Beach Studios in Miami, FL by Tom Lord-Alge (The Cure, Steve Winwood).
From the start, Mach Five received strong support in the national music press and on modern rock radio: from Billboard, "The countdown is on for their much deserved national breakthrough...", to Guitar Word "Brimming with rich melodies, hummable choruses and timeless riffs" and Austin Chronicle, "Surprisingly flawless and shamelessly catchy." Mach Five on TV has included songs and appearances on MTV, ESPN, FX, Discovery, E, Bravo, NASCAR, FOX Sports and NBC.
Mach Five's second LP Get on the Bus (Baam! 333 Discs) was produced and engineered by Jeff Darien and Mike Anzel. Get on the Bus expands Mach Five’s sound and vision with songs of sloth and hope, screen zombies and self-absorption, false prophets and blind faith, abnormal psychology and sonic layers of jangle, electronics, counter-melody madness and walls of six-string swirl.
